Superhero Bird

Twit Twit Twitter....Superhero of Social Media Sites
Is it a bird...is it a plane....no it's a Social Media Communication Network that is impacting and changing the way we communicate....the speed at which we communicate...
I remember the days before mobile phones when you arranged a time to meet on the home phone and had no choice but to get there on time so as not to keep the other party waiting. Nowadays the destination and time can be changed in a flash. We have more options and flexibility. That in its self is changing our expectations and opening the door for new possibilities.
Once we grappled with the idea of mobile phones and they turned from looking like bricks to slender devices that could easily slip into the top pocket of your shirt, then texting became the new way to communicate – especially where conversations were unnecessary e.g if your informing someone of a change of plan. Not to mention the fact that texting is often cheaper than calling.
The impact of reading a message rather than hearing it in a dialogue is also quite different. You can just drop a line to your friend when you are in a boring meeting at work that might make them chuckle, especially if they are on a beach in Barbados drinking a Pina Colada. A photo of them sent back to you, doing just that might make you growl or smile. Either way it opens you up to a whole new world in an instant. There you are in the meeting and there they are on the beach. In just a few seconds you are transported into their story.
If life is a stage and we are all actors in it then its no wonder in today's advanced technology that we are reaching out to be a part of each other's story in so many other ways.
One of the most live ways to do that is through Twitter. It's a live conversation with people you may never even have met and may never meet. A culture, a group an event, or interest links you. The old saying of: it's not what you know but who you know, is taking on a whole new angle as the possibilities become endless.
So down to practicalities. How does Twitter actually work?
Twitter is essentially a service that allows you to share bite-sized messages (or "tweets") of up to 140 characters long. These short snapshots give insight into people's lives – which is part of what makes it so popular. More actors on the stage...
These messages, or Tweets, are public and available to anyone interested in them. Twitter users subscribe to your messages by following your account. Followers receive every one of your messages in their timeline, a feed of all the accounts they have subscribed to.
When you combine messages that are quick to write, easy to read, public, opt-in, and accessible anywhere, you have a powerful, real-time way of communicating.
It's a place to network, connect, and communicate. If you're an Internet marketer, you get to hang out with other marketers. If you're a muscian, you can connect with other muscians. If you're mad about Justin Bieber, you can meet other people mad about Justin Bieber.
In fact, Twitter is attracting a wide variety of users, from the political realm, actors, students, bloggers, housewives, businessmen and so forth.
What does Twitter do for businesses?
As a business, you can use Twitter to quickly share information, gather market intelligence and build relationships with people who care about your company or soon will. As with most of the Social Media Sites the opportunity to market ones self, product or service is huge.
Twitter is rising to match Facebook as the most used Social Media site....so time to get twitting...and use Twitter – not a bird, or a plane but the superhero of Social Media Sites....
