Pub Quiz Tips – Keeping the Audience Compelled by being the best Quiz Master
Many pub quizzes are a person in the front throwing out the questions and that's it they might name the winner but not always. This is not a great way of keeping the audience entertained and will put people coming to future quizzes. You want to get a complete blend of people of different ages, sex and up bringing. If your the quiz master here's some tips to keep your audience wanting more week after week.

Write catchy and snappy questions. Ones that run off the tongue that are easy for you to pronounce. This limits the amount of times you are asked to repeat. Having to repeat several questions annoys you but more importantly the quiz audience. The simple answer to this is don't put yourself in that position write the questions as easy as possible and dry run them a couple of times.

Offer worthy prizes. If you offer £5-£10 to spend that night behind the bar 10mins before closing doesn't appeal to many and a pub quiz is not about that. It's an advert for the pub itself, "Look how well we do this" you're basically saying and not "I hope you're a good binge drinker". Now a £5-£10 pound voucher for a prize isn't all bad but give them at least a month to redeem and don't make it the first prize unless it is a very small quiz. Look at prizes that would be useful for a team. Dropping the price of the prizes as you may have to buy more is a good idea for bigger quizzes. What about a voucher to a local restaurant.

Get your personality out there. If you are not good talking in public get someone else to do it. That's a hard fact but be honest with yourself as to whether you are good at coming across well in front of crowds. Get some one who not only has control over the crowd but also gets the audience involved with the pub quiz. Engaging the audience is such an important part. You don't have to be a top comedian but you do have to be interesting.

Stick to what you know or make it funny. If you want to put a bit of background knowledge into any of the question make sure it factual or at the very least that it's silly and funny. You don't want to come up with facts that are old wives tales and get someone in the audience shouting you down. Have a couple of one liners ready in case this happens in the pub quiz. You could say "I thought that might cause a bit of controversy" and "It must be true the tramp outside the the newsagent told me". Hopefully this is going to happen so try and defuse the situation.

Judge the audience. Make sure how ever you are going to entertain the audience you know what's type they are. If it's full of serious pub quiz goers then jokes may be missed and facts will have to be 100%. The best audience is the mixed one, the quiz goers that are there for fun and not to prove themselves. You will more often get some teams taking it very serious and surprisingly these are not always the best.

I suppose we can never truly know who is the most knowledgeable person but only guess as to who is the most knowledgeable of the various people ever studied in some way.
