How To Play Mahjong Solitaire
Mahjong solitaire is a popular computer game that was first released in the 1980's. Like regular card solitaire, mahjong solitaire is a game for solo players, and is a great way to relax and unwind. Since its release, many versions of the original have been created. These variants often add new board layouts, tile sets and special gameplay elements. Some mahjong games even add more in depth elements like quests and story modes.
The basic setup is simple, although it can be time consuming to do manually. 144 tiles, with 42 different designs are used to create a layout. This can be anything from an eagle or a turtle to something simple like a pyramid. Tiles are placed on top of and around each other to create a three dimensional board. Once the tiles are set up, the game can begin.
The aim of the game is to remove all the tiles in the fastest time possible (although if you're playing to relax you can skip the timer). To remove a tile, it must be matched with another identical tile. Tiles can only be removed if they have at least one side clear and no tiles on top of them. A full game usually takes a few minutes to play, although this depends on the difficulty. In some cases the game can be impossible to fully complete, but thankfully most modern mahjong solitaire games offer a "shuffle" option that will make the board playable again.
Modern mahjong games often add features to make the experience more interesting. Some contain special tiles that will clear extra tiles or give time bonuses, and the majority mahjong solitaire variants include a hint button in case you get stuck.
