The Various Ways to Get Guitar Lessons
Learning to play the guitar is a dream come true for many people. Ever since The Beatles burst on the scene in the early 1960s, teenagers and adults alike have been fascinating about becoming rock gods. Unless blessed with a terrific singing voice, the best way to do this is to learn how to play the guitar, drums, or bass guitar. Most people select the guitar, because it is an instrument that is highly mobile, easy to practice anywhere, and fun at parties.
Learning to play the guitar is not as difficult as many people believe. There is a wealth of resources to give the aspiring guitarist all the instruction necessary to become proficient at the instrument in a relatively short time frame. The following is a guide to the different ways and methods to receive guitar lessons.
The best way to learn the guitar is to take lessons in person with an instructor. Before selecting a tutor to instruct you, check their references and make sure that they are reliable and effective. Unfortunately, some people in the music business are a little flaky and prone to being late to appointments, or even missing them altogether. When you settle on a tutor, don't buy a large number of lessons from them right away. Take a couple lessons with them first, and make sure you are compatible with them and their teaching methods. A good live instructor is the best and fastest method to learn the guitar, but keep in mind it is the most expensive as well.
Many people turn to instructional DVDs or online videos for their guitar lessons. This is an inexpensive way to learn the guitar, but it has a major inherent disadvantage. There is no instructor to correct your mistakes, and everyone makes mistakes. If these mistakes are not corrected early in the learning process, they can become bad habits that are difficult or impossible to break later on.
The internet is a vast resource for students of the guitar looking for lessons. There are many free websites that have videos, articles and lessons for every guitar student level from beginning to advanced. Again, taking advantage of these lessons it is a great way to save money, but there is no one there to fix your mistakes.

You save some money over in person lessons, and you still get an interactive instructor that will make sure to help you with any problems you encounter during your instruction.
There is one outdated method that some people still use for guitar lessons, and it needs to be mentioned. Some people still try to instruct themselves from books. This is the absolutely worst way to attempt to learn the guitar. The vast majority of people who try this method end up quitting in short order.
