So you’ve got your copy of Mayfair The Settlers of Catan, but you need a group to play with. Well, it’s time to take matters into your own hands and host a game night.
Invite your Friends
The amount of people you invite depends on what games you’d like to play. If you’re sticking to The Settlers of Catan, you’ll want to invite the right number for your game or expansion pack. Some variants have been posted that make it possible to play with more than six players.
If you want a larger gathering you’ll need to plan accordingly by either using games that everyone can play or having several smaller games and dividing into groups. If you’re going with the smaller game option, keep the games relatively short so that people can change games and mix up the groups. Offering refreshments goes a long way in establishing a friendly atmosphere. If the group is large you may want to make it game night potluck.
Know your Audience

What do you think about last nights game?
Last nights game between the Dragons and the Eels was a everything i expected. It was a high quality game, both teams playing like it was the finals and the Dragons finished the game with 34/36 (94%) sets completed. Dragons were dealt a harsh blow with Nathan Fein breaking his ankle, could be sidelined for 3 months and he looked like the only one creating attacking plays.
I like both teams, but agreed with the commentators on some of the poor penalties and other plays that went against the Eels who were tackling most of the game (did not help coughing up the pill numerous times themselves). There was a chance when the Dragons were down a player that could have been a major factor in the last quarter but then the eels lost one themselves when Shackleton went down.
Dragons again like last year grinders, whereas Eels flair needs confidence which comes from win streaks, was a hard ask first up. Fien set both tries up and their halves controlled well complimenting their great forwards roll on. More attack needed from Moimoi and Mateo next week and their halves and Keating boys need to kick much better.
