Hidden Treasure in Connecticut - Six Places to Search
Connecticut is known for it's history during the French & Indian War, and the war of 1812. There were many battles fought during this time. In recent years, artifacts from those battles have been discovered in plowed up farm fields, and along riverbanks. However, Connecticut is also know for it's pirate treasures.
For years, many well-known pirates traveled in and around Connecticut's waterways. Often they were being chased by others, and during their fleeing times, they would bury their stolen booty.
There are many stories that have passed down through history about pirate hoards being buried in and around Connecticut. But whether you want to search for pirate treasure, stolen loot, or treasures from the French & Indian War, this article is about six areas that may contain hidden treasure in Connecticut.
Brooklyn is located in Windham County. There are tales of buried treasure cached there by the famous and notorious pirate, Blackbeard.
Fairfield is located in Fairfield County east of the present town of Fairfield. In 1637, a famous battle took place here. The colonists were defeated by the Pequot Indians in that year. By 1779, the town had been rebuilt and prospered until a British regiment destroyed it. Many of the homes were destroyed, and rumors of buried caches have circulated about the area. The Fairfield inhabitants heard of an impending attack, so they buried their valuables hoping to return. Unfortunately, many were killed.
Milford is located at New Haven, on Charles Island. Another famous pirate, Captain Kidd, is reported to have buried a treasure here. There have been many reports of old coins being found on the beach there.
Money Island is located in Middlesex County. Another Captain Kidd treasure may be buried there.
Norwalk is a seaport located in Fairfield County at the mouth of the Norwalk River. There are many stories of buried treasures here.
Pilot Island is located in Fairfield County. Another Captain Kidd treasure may be on this Island.
It is important that you always ask for permission when entering private property. If you are going on to State or Federal Land, in search for lost treasure, be sure to check with your State laws about any digging.
Good luck in your search for hidden treasure.
